As we march forward toward the release of Wicked: For Good, we thought it was time to collate all of the information we have to date in one handy place!

In June, we were lucky enough to get an advance sighting of Wicked: For Good‘s first trailer, showcasing the evolution of Elphaba and Glinda’s journeys to becoming the Wicked and Good Witches respectively. Back then, we commented that the Wicked sequel seems more morally ambiguous and conflicted than the last one, leaping off the end of the first part and grappling with the consequences of Glinda and Elphaba’s actions after the truth of the Wizard’s intentions is revealed.

You can read more about hidden details and changes we spotted in the trailer here.

If part one was a magical high school comedy, then part two, set five years later, is a political thriller tinged with mysticism and sorcery. Both films were captured in the UK at the same time, meaning the cast had to wear “part one” and “part two” hats interchangeably.

When will it be released?

Wicked: For Good is set to bubble into UK cinemas on 21 November 2025, almost exactly a year after part one. We’re already in agony waiting so long! But, the Wicked content teams are keeping us updated with regular behind-the-scenes looks, including this one.

Cynthia ErivoAriana GrandeJonathan Bailey and more will all return, while famous numbers from act two include “For Good”, “As Long As You’re Mine” and “No Good Deed”. You can hear bits of the first and the last in the trailer. But there’s more…

New numbers

Let us be glad – the Wicked team have confirmed that two new numbers are being composed for part two that don’t feature in the stage show. Wicked: For Good- The Soundtrack will arrive on 21 November and is available for pre-order now.

You can see the names of the tracks featured below, including new additions: “No Place Like Home” is written in Elphaba green and “The Girl in the Bubble” in Glinda pink. According to an interview with director Jon M Chu, these new numbers were played to Grande and Erivo when they first signed on for the flicks.

Speaking of the new album, Schwartz said: “I’m especially happy that the soundtrack album for Wicked: For Good has so much new music on it. In addition to two brand new songs, there is a lot that’s new in several other existing songs. So not only listeners coming to the score for the first time, but long-time fans of the original Broadway cast album, will have a great deal to discover.”

New scenes

The trailer definitely suggests a wealth of new material has been added to boost the Wicked: For Good film texture and storytelling. A glimpse of Dorothy hopping onto the Yellow Brick Road and meeting the Wizard was featured (sorry Matilda fans, it looks as though a certain film star won’t be taking on the role as rumours had claimed), all of which goes well beyond what was included in the stage show. That will likely mean oodles of new dialogue and texture added to all our favourite characters.

We also get a montage of Elphaba’s rebellion (including springing animals from cages across Oz), as well as a first look at her lair, where she tears apart propaganda about her wickedness. There also seems to be a much more lavish spectacle for Glinda’s wedding – so we’re intrigued to see how that plays out.

Returning – and new – characters

Given the flashforward Elphaba had in part one, it’s likely we’ll meet back up with the tragic Dr Dillamond in part two.

We’ve had confirmation that some minor characters will also be making a comeback. Bowen Yang (Pfannee) and Bronwyn James (ShenShen) have now been upgraded from Glinda’s fawning classmates at Shiz University to her fawning assistants, likely working with her in the Emerald City, while, interestingly, multi-award-winning star Sharon D Clarke will be back as the voice of Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear. It’ll be interesting to see whether she appears in a flashback or the present day.

Also returning will be Adam James as Glinda’s father Mr Upland – adding weight to speculation that there will be additional scenes taking place at Shiz University. Another interesting note is Rehema Muthamia will be playing a “Winkie” – who according to George Maguire’s series of novels that inspired Wicked, are the inhabitants of The Vinkus, the western province of Oz.

Beyond that, some names that will be familiar to West End fans include stage veteran Liz Izen, currently on stage in Mrs Warren’s Profession in the West End, playing a “Glinda Fan” (and let’s face it, who isn’t?), while former stage Glinda Emily Tierney is confirmed as part of the ensemble. If part one is anything to go by, expect a raft of cameos from theatre favourites!

We can confirm there will definitely be a return to Shiz following a smattering of reshoots (all of which are fairly standard for any major motion picture these days), so we may even get some familiar family members back for part two…

Cameos galore!

Speaking of the cast, as we’ve detailed copiously, part one had a whole raft of cameos and special appearances from West End stars and Wicked legends. It seems that part two will continue the trend! A few names we’d heard attached to the film didn’t appear in part one, so we’re guessing we’ll see them somewhere in the upcoming movie.

In addition, we recently sat down with three former Elphabas, Kerry Ellis, Louise Dearman and Rachel Tucker, to ask how they may be involved with Wicked: For Good. You can listen to the podcast episode for free below:

Paul Tazewell’s incredible costumes have evolved

Paul Tazewell made history winning an Oscar for his costumes earlier this year, and part two seems to suggest he could repeat the trick for part two. Glinda’s gorgeous wedding dress, Elphaba’s evolved overalls, Fiyero’s gold-crested palace guard uniform – we’re expecting a rich visual feast come November.

Questions need answers…

There are still a few things we’re yet to suss! Who was the rider at the start of part one? Anyone who has seen the first film will remember a scene where a hooded figure gallops towards the Emerald City at the beginning of the piece, as Dorothy journeys along the Yellow Brick Road with the deceased witch’s broom. They also make a quick reappearance in the trailer for part two… But who were they? We have some theories based on the stage show, but we’re hoping we might be surprised!

Secondly, what might change? Will the ending be rewritten? Will certain characters have different fates? We’re so fascinated. Bring on November 2025!
