FINAL MONTH – Ancient Grease must end on 22 May!
Calling all you dishy Demi-Gods, you’re the ones that we want!
From the creators of five-star sell-out hits Mulan Rouge and Stranger Sings comes a new five-star parody musical. Ancient Grease takes the iconic, summer-lovin’ world of Grease and crashes it headfirst into Ancient Greece, reimagining the storyline and songs we all know and love. You know Danny and Sandy – now meet Zeus and Hera!
Rather than replacing what audiences love, Ancient Grease asks a simple question: what happens when familiar stories are retold so that nobody shrinks themselves to belong? The result is a parody musical that flips expectations, reshuffles relationships, and gives classic archetypes room to evolve. After a fateful summer night, Zeus and Hera are destined to become star-crossed lovers – but when the Fates decide to make things rough, Hera must choose between Zeus’s thunderbolt and her newest desires.
Ancient Grease is directed by critically acclaimed stand-up comedian and creator of cabaret legend Séayoncé, Dan Wye, and marks the debut production from emerging writer Lady Aria Grey. Together, the team continues The Vaults’ legacy of championing underrepresented voices through unapologetic joy and divine mischief.
Wye adds:
‘I am so excited to bring my love and knowledge of comedy, camp excellence, and queer power to the project. Collaborating with such insanely talented people to create something truly special and hilarious feels like a much-needed tonic for the times we’re living in’
Packed with intoxicating songs, divine dance numbers, and a cast of badly behaving Gods, this new immersive parody musical is a deliciously naughty, nostalgia-soaked nod to the original hit film.
★★★★★
‘Ancient Grease is exactly what London fringe theatre does best: queer, clever, anarchic, and irresistibly alive. It’s a love letter to both Grease and Greek mythology, all filtered through a glitter-streaked lens of parody and pleasure’
