Jonathan Groff is quizzed on Sondheim and Shakespeare – watch now

Jonathan Groff was put to the test in a game of “Is it Sondheim or is it Shakespeare?”, taking iconic quotes and seeing if they can identify which of the two wrote it.

The Tony Award-winning Broadway star will play Rosalind in a new production of As You Like It for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Ahead of the run, co-artistic director Daniel Evans, who will direct the revival, quizzed the actor. You can see how he got on in the video below!

Groff picked up the Tony Award in 2025 for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along, and will make his RSC debut this autumn. He will be joined in the all-male As You Like It by Fisayo Akinade as Celia.

In the play, Rosalind is banished from the court of Duke Frederick but falls in love with Orlando before fleeing to the Forest of Arden with her cousin Celia.

Further casting and creative team members are to be revealed.

The production runs in Stratford-upon-Avon from 26 September to 7 November, with a press night on 6 October.
