Hot Mess, a new romcom musical from the team behind 42 Balloons, has released an exclusive music video!

The musical has a book and direction by Ellie Coote and music and lyrics by Jack Godfrey, who won Best Composer, Lyricist or Book Writer at The Stage Debut Awards in 2024 for the WhatsOnStage Award-nominated 42 Balloons.

It tells the story of Earth and Humanity as lovers, exploring the climate crisis as a relationship on the brink of collapse.

Hot Mess premiered at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, before a transfer to Southwark Playhouse Elephant.

Our critic said: “It’s a terrifically fun idea, executed with energy and pace,” adding, “As musicals go, this is high concept, but it’s high energy and high success, too.”

The show will now play at The Other Palace from Saturday 13 June to Sunday 6 September 2026, with a national press night on Tuesday 23 June 2026.

Set to star in the forthcoming run will be Danielle Steers, who returns to the production as Earth, joined by Morgan Gregory, who takes on the role of Humanity.

Also joining the company are Mia Quimpo as cover Earth and Nathan Shaw as cover Humanity.

The production features music supervision and co-orchestrations by Joe Beighton, choreography by Alexzandra Sarmiento, set design by Shankho Chaudhuri, lighting design by Ryan Joseph Stafford, audio production and sound design by Paul Gatehouse, costume design by Sarah Mercadé, musical direction by Sara De Sanctis, casting by Pearson Casting and intimacy coordination by Lex Kaby.

The dramaturg is Deirdre O’Halloran, with Lydia Cook as associate director and Taz Hoesli as associate choreographer, Phil Burke as associate lighting designer, Charlie Smith and Richard Pomeroy as associate sound designers, and Ciéranne Kennedy-Bell as costume supervisor.

Rosie Morgan is the company stage manager, with James Anderton as production manager and Byron Ladd-Carr as sound number one.

Hot Mess is produced by Vicky Graham Productions, Birmingham Hippodrome, Aria Entertainment, and Pascal Ultee with TRW Production, and RJG Productions as General Managers
