Tru with Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Charlotte d’Amboise – first look photos

Take a first look at Jesse Tyler Ferguson in Jay Presson Allen’s Tru, running at the Menier Chocolate Factory this autumn.

Set in December 1975, Tru follows Truman Capote as he is alone in his New York apartment, dealing with a crisis that has cost him the friendship of the social circle he had been part of. The play is drawn entirely from Capote’s own words and was originally staged in 1989.

Ferguson is known for Modern Family, Take Me Out and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. He is joined on stage by Charlotte d’Amboise, who has appeared on Broadway in productions including A Chorus Line, Sweet Charity and Chicago.

Directed by Rob Ashford, the production has its opening night on 27 September, with previews currently in motion, and runs until 14 November. It is presented by the Menier Chocolate Factory in association with Seaview, OHenry Productions, Mickey Liddell & Pete Shilaimon and A Dog Named Beckett Productions.

The production previously ran at the House of the Redeemer’s Library in New York City in March, with Ashford, Ferguson and d’Amboise also collaborating on the production.

The creative team comprises set designer Paul Farnsworth, costume designer Jaimal Odedra, lighting designer Jamie Platt, sound designer Adam Cork and associate director/Swan walking cover Kate Tydman.
