The Phantom of the Opera releases details for 40th Anniversary performance

The Phantom of the Opera will mark its 40th anniversary with a gala performance at His Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 2026.

The performance will take place at the musical’s original London home, with alumni artists from the past four decades joining the current company on stage for a special curtain call.

A limited number of tickets for the anniversary performance will go on sale in late September, with further details to be announced. Fans can register for access to booking through Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Box Five Club.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be matched by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Mackintosh Foundation, with the combined funds used to launch a new Phantom 40th Scholarship Programme. The programme will fund professional training at performing arts schools across the UK, supporting students pursuing careers in music and the performing arts.

The programme will be run by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and will open for applications for the 2027-28 academic year.

Beatrice Penny-Touré, who will play Christine Daaé at the gala performance, is a former Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation scholar.

The birthday season stars Jordan Donica as The Phantom, Penny-Touré as Christine Daaé, Rhys Whitfield as Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny, Sierra Boggess as Carlotta, Matt Bateman as Piangi, Joseph Millson as Monsieur André, Ian Pirie as Monsieur Firmin, Joanna Riding as Madame Giry and Millie Lyon as Meg. Colleen Rose Curran will play Christine at certain performances.

The anniversary cast will perform through to 21 November 2026.

The cast also includes Harry Apps, George Arvidson, Michael Baxter, Embla Bishop, David Burilin, Polly Clarke, Leonard Cook, Hywel Dowsell, Connor Ewing, Lila Falce-Bass, Florence Fowler, James Gant, Emily George, Melanie Gowie, Molly Hall, Will Hawksworth, Matt Hayden, Nino Hepher, Mandy Kwan, Verity Marlow, Tim Morgan, Inguna Morozova, Skye November, Taylor Pardell, Johnny Randall, Rachel Spurrell, Jasmine Wallis, Victoria Ward and Alicia Wong.

The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of Christine Daaé, a young soprano whose voice attracts the attention of the mysterious Phantom, a masked musical genius living beneath the Paris Opera House. He becomes her mentor, while Christine’s reunion with her childhood sweetheart Raoul leads to a love triangle and a series of events driven by the Phantom’s obsession with the young singer.

The production has been running in London since 1986 and has played to 160 million people across 217 cities, 52 territories and 23 languages. The score includes The Music of the Night, All I Ask of You, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, Masquerade and “The Phantom of the Opera”.

Produced by Cameron Mackintosh, the musical has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, and a book by Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is based on the novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by Gaston Leroux.

Orchestrations are by David Cullen and Andrew Lloyd Webber, with musical supervision by Simon Lee. Production design is by Maria Björnson, with set design adapted by Matt Kinley and associate costume design by Jill Parker. Lighting is by Andrew Bridge, with associate lighting design by Warren Letton, and sound is by Mick Potter.

The musical staging and choreography is by Dame Gillian Lynne, recreated and adapted by Chrissie Cartwright. It was originally directed by Harold Prince and is directed in the current production by Seth Sklar-Heyn.
