Troubadour Theatres has been given planning permission for a major new venue on the Greenwich Peninsula, featuring two 1,500-seat auditoriums.

The development, named Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre, is planning to open in late 2026.

The new complex follows the company’s existing sites at Wembley Park, currently home to the WhatsOnStage Award-winning production of Starlight Express, and Canary Wharf, hosting the first stage adaptation of The Hunger Games. The Greenwich venue will serve as a receiving house for large-scale productions and international live entertainment.

The theatre will be located in the heart of the Greenwich Peninsula development, which already includes over 5,500 residents and 180 businesses.

In a statement, Justine Simons (deputy mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries), said: “It’s fantastic news that the Troubadour Greenwich Peninsula Theatre is set to open later this year. London is the theatre capital of the world, drawing millions of visitors every year, and this 3,000-capacity venue will be a brilliant addition to this ever-growing creative district, helping us continue to build a better London for everyone.”

Programming plans for the venues will be revealed in due course.
