Motown the Musical announces open auditions for UK and Ireland tour

Open auditions are to be held for the upcoming touring production of Motown the Musical, which begins in October at the Birmingham Alexandra Theatre and will be running until late 2019.

The audition callout says that the producers are looking for black and mixed-race male and female performers aged over 18 to portray the iconic stars of the Motown era, as well as black and mixed-race boys aged between eight and 13 with unbroken voices and under 4"11" to play Little Michael Jackson, Little Stevie Wonder and Little Berry Gordy.

Auditionees are to bring trainers, comfortable clothes to dance in and plenty of water, with adult performers needing to prepare two Motown songs with the sheet music, and should have a copy of their CV and a recent photo with them.

The auditions will take place on Saturday 16 June at Manchester Opera House and on Sunday 17 June at Birmingham Conservatoire.

The show, which premiered in 2013 in New York, tells the story of the Motown movement and its impact on the musical world, as well as the ascension of Motown founder Gordy. The production features over 50 classic songs including "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "I'll Be There", "Dancing In The Street", "Stop! In The Name Of Love", "My Girl" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". The West End production of the show is running in the West End and booking until 5 January 2019.
