Love and War Premieres at Tobacco Factory

The Tobacco Factory announces the world premiere of Love and War, an arresting new work from the Bristol venue’s Associate Dance Artists, The Mark Bruce Company

Mark Bruce, known for his intensely imaginative dance productions which pack a ‘visceral punch’ and often combine extraordinary, mythical themes with a personally chosen, eclectic soundtrack, uses theatre-in-the-round, a seven-strong cast of performers and a cracking soundtrack to plunge the viewer into an underworld where time shifts and figures from myth and ritual collide.

Performed by Greig Cooke, Eleanor Duval, Darren Ellis, Joanne Fong, Caroline Hotchkiss, Elizabeth Mischler, and Ino Riga, Love and War sees gods materialising in a startling world of frenzied cheerleaders, murderous strangers, dogs of war and bedraggled homecoming queens.

The soundtrack to Bruce’s new dance theatre work ranges from Sparklehorse, The White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age to Debussy, György Sándor Ligeti and Pink Martini.

The Mark Bruce Company was launched in 1991 and Love and War is the latest full-length production since the critically acclaimed Sea Of Bones toured in 2007.

This new production plays at the Tobacco Factory Theatre on 7 – 8 May, as part of the city-wide Mayfest 2010 festival.
