There can be few people who have not seen a production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s musical, which started life all those years ago as a school production. Since then it has, and continues to, play theatres worldwide, as well having been made in to a film version starring Donny Osmond.
In the current tour, Ian H Watkins (of Steps fame) dons the multi-coloured coat and a brilliant job he makes if it. His cheeky personality shines through and he makes an instant connection with the audience. But, regardless of the casting of Joseph, this is really an ensemble piece of theatre allowing a mainly young energetic cast, some making their professional debut, to entertain with some of the best-loved songs in musical theatre, such as “Any Dream Will Do”.
The fast paced musical follows Joseph’s story, from his brothers selling him into slavery, as they dislike him being their fathers favorite son, to ending up as the Pharaohs right hand man. Then ends in a mega mix of musicals highlights, allowing the audience to join in and literally dance in the aisles.
This timeless classic of musical theatre hits all the right notes with this cast showing why it never stop touring and provides a first class night out at the theatre.
