A UK tour of Zeller’s play will open in Richmond in September and run in the West End the following month
Jonathan Pryce and Eileen Atkins will lead the cast in the tour of Florian Zeller's play The Height of the Storm, which visits Richmond, Bath and Cambridge ahead of a West End run at Wyndham's Theatre.
The piece, translated by Christopher Hampton (who has translated a number of Zeller's works) follows André and Madeleine, a couple realising their relationship may not be as perfect as they expected, even after 50 years of marriage.
Pryce is a Tony Award and two-time Olivier Award winner, known for his roles in Glengarry Glen Ross and Brazil. He was last onstage in the Globe production of The Merchant of Venice, where he played a 'powerfully original Shylock'. He also played the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones.
Atkins is a three-time Olivier Award-winner, known for her roles in The Crown and Gosford Park, and a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning performance in Cranford.
The production will be directed by Jonathan Kent, who recently directed the Chekhov trilogy of plays at Chichester Festival Theatre and the National Theatre. He also directed the Olivier Award-winning West End production of Gypsy.
Zeller's most recent play to run in London was The Lie, which premiered at the Menier Chocolate Factory last autumn. His previous credits include The Father, The Mother and The Truth, with The Father and The Truth both nominated for Best New Comedy in 2015 and 2017. Kenneth Cranham won the Olivier Award for Best Actor when he appeared in The Father.
The Height of the Storm runs at Richmond Theatre from 1 to 8 September before touring to Theatre Royal Bath and the Cambridge Arts Theatre. It will run at Wyndham's Theatre in the West End from 2 October to 1 December.
