Celebrities including Kara Tointon and Julian Glover attended the opening night of Florian Zeller's comedy The Lie at the Menier Chocolate Factory last night.

The show, which stars Samantha Bond, Alexander Hanson, Tony Gardner and Alexandra Gilbreath, is directed by Lindsay Posner. It is translated by Christopher Hampton, who has written English translations of many of Zeller's previous works which include The Mother, The Father and The Truth.

The Lie is set the evening of a dinner party between two couples where hostess Alice is unsure whether she should tell that she saw her friend's husband kissing another woman.

In his review of the show, Matt Trueman said The Lie is 'almost a study in the species of lie, a grand classification of different untruths.'

The Lie runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory until 18 November.
