Icarus Return to Portsmouth With Hamlet

Shakespeare’s definitive tragedy of justice and revenge Hamlet: Prince of Denmark comes to the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth on 15 and 16 February.

The stunning Icarus Theatre Collective return to the New Theatre Royal with one of the bard’s classic tragedies.

The King of Denmark is dead. Consumed with grief, Prince Hamlet devotes himself to avenging his father’s death with devastating consequences for his family and the Kingdom.

The spirit of a murdered king, the wrath of a vengeful son, and the turmoil of Denmark in 1601. Shakespeare’s most iconic and challenging play tells the tale of young Prince Hamlet avenging his father’s death and confronting his uncle, the new King who stole his throne.

Icarus were last seen at the New Theatre Royal with Othello and Shakespeare’s R&J, and are a unique mid-scale theatre company that function as a collective. A team of highly qualified Producers lead the company under the artistic direction of company founder Max Lewendel. Each producer leads one major project each year, which can be a play, a tour, a major education project or devised piece.

Cutting the original text down to around two and a half hours, Icarus brings vividly to life some of literature’s most vibrant language and characters.
