Terry Johnson will adapt Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, which runs at the Hampstead Theatre later this year.

Johnson also directs, and returns to the venue following shows such as Prism with Robert Lindsay and Hysteria starring Antony Sher. His version of Chekhov's piece will be set in provincial Russia and follows a dysfunctional family. The cast is to be announced. Uncle Vanya runs from 30 November to 12 January.

The cast for Hampstead Downstairs' world premiere of Ifeyinwa Frederick's The Hoes with direction by Lakesha Arie-Angelo has also been announced. Aretha Ayeh (Miss Littlewood), Marième Diouf (A Tale of Two Cities) and Nicola Maisie Taylor (Chicken Palace) will appear in the show, a celebration of sisterhood in the midst of turbulence. It runs from 26 October to 1 December.
