Exclusive: The final cast member has been confirmed for the world premiere of Jonathan Caren’s new play.

Hit Machine is set to star Josh Radnor and Noah Galvin, who play two estranged brothers, one a record mogul and the other an aspiring musician. It marks the pair’s London stage debuts. You can listen to the pair talk about the piece on the WhatsOnStage Podcast.

The play features original music by multi-Grammy Award winner Ben Harper and CJ Harper, with direction by Daniel Bailey.

Khalil Madovi is the final cast member announced. Caren said: “I always wanted Defy The Leader to be played by a real musician – someone who has lived the artistic life of the character. Khalil brings that from the inside.”

In addition, Madovi will be designing the sound of the play.

Caren added: “He moves seamlessly across genres and mediums, and because he’s playing a musician and designing the sound of the production, his presence will be woven into the entire piece in a fresh way.  It’s exactly what the play is about: art as collaboration. You’ll feel his imprint everywhere.”

The play was a finalist for the Eugene O’Neill’s 2025 National Playwright’s Conference and selected for IAMA’s New Works Fest and The Working Theater’s inaugural Stage Left Festival.

Also on the creative team are set and costume designer Amelia Jane Hankin, and lighting designer Laura Howard.

Hit Machine will run at Soho Theatre from 8 July to 15 August.

Hit Machine is produced by Juliet Berman for Spiral Stairs Entertainment, Kater Gordon and BPM Theatrical, with co-producers Jessica Goldman Foung and Owen Drake, with general management by James Steel Productions.
