Flash Mob (Tour – Salford)

Take five different dance styles and five different dance performers, mix together and Flash Mob: Where Dance Worlds Collide is the result.

An amalgam of various dance styles, the show links together dance pieces through clever use of pretend social media and visual images all projected onto a letterbox screen behind the dancers.

From thought bubbles to nightclubs all are effectively woven into the themes of the show. However at the core of the show is a series of highly skilled dancers.

Streetdance group Flawless who appeared in Britain's Got Talent in 2009, work both in unison and singly to great effect and their balancing skills are phenomenal.

Dancer Tommy Frantzen, a runner up in So You Think You Can Dance, provides a disarming comedy relief during Act One while still retaining incredible dancing. Contemporary dance duo Alleviate provide some of the most evocative routines, while Irish fusion group Brosena create a great counterpoint to the contemporary dance.

Both these dance duos appeared on Got To Dance but deserve to be more widely recognised. Probably best known are Kevin Clifton and Karen Hauer, both professionals in the last series of Strictly Come Dancing, who show a mix of modern ballroom while still able to keep up with the street dancers.

The music used is a mix of styles, but all is carefully chosen to enhance the dance it accompanies and the story told over the first half has some very emotional sections. The second half is much more of a showcase of the performer's different styles but still provides excellent entertainment.

Overall Flash Mob: Where Dance Worlds Collide might not be completely original but it is a hugely enjoyable evening showing the skills of some incredible dancers and as such is well worth a visit for any dance fan.
