The Bush Theatre in west London has announced its summer/autumn 2023 season.
Artistic director Lynette Linton has emphasised the theatre’s dedication to talent development both on and off stage, with community engagement at the forefront of everything they do.
The season includes a new Bush commission, a highlight from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the return of two popular shows.
The season kicks off with the world premiere of AJ Yi’s A Playlist for the Revolution, a new Bush commission directed by Emily Ling Williams. The play tells the story of two young people falling in love and fighting to survive in Hong Kong amidst the largest demonstrations in the city’s history. The play runs from 23 June to 5 August, with ticket prices starting at £15.
Next up is the return of the hit production Red Pitch, written by Tyrell Williams and directed by Daniel Bailey. The play explores the impact of gentrification versus regeneration on London’s communities through the story of three football-obsessed teens.
Kedar Williams-Stirling, Emeka Sesay, and Francis Lovehall reprise their roles in the production, which won the Off West End Award for Best New Play in 2022, with Williams also winning Most Promising New Playwright at the Critics’ Circle Awards. Red Pitch runs from 7 to 30 September, with ticket prices starting at £15.
Anoushka Lucas’ (Oklahoma!) critically commended, semi-biographical piece Elephant also returns, running from 14 October to 4 November, directed once more by Jess Edwards.
Samuel Barnett will return in the five-star Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going To Happen, which transfers to the Bush for its first London run. Penned by Marcelo Dos Santos and directed by Matthew Xia, the award-winning piece plays from 10 November to 23 December.
All of these productions are on sale now.
