Behind the scenes at the Old Vic’s A Christmas Carol

The Old Vic has released snaps from behind the scenes at A Christmas Carol – which has returned for its ninth consecutive year at the venue.

Adapted by Jack Thorne and directed by Matthew Warchus, the production has become a fixture in the theatre’s calendar since it first opened in 2017.

The 2024/25 production raised a record £235,000 for Waterloo Foodbank, contributing to the ongoing charitable efforts associated with the production.

This year’s charity has been confirmed as Feeding Britain, a UK-based charity that works to eliminate hunger across the country.

For the new run, Paul Hilton takes on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Joining him are Rob Compton as Bob Cratchit, Jamie Doncaster as swing, Geraint Downing as Ferdy/George, Matthew Durkan as Fred, Lauren Jones as Little Fan, Rachel Moran as dance captain/swing, Stuart Neal as Father/Marley, Claire O’Leary as Jess, Alastair Parker as Fezziwig, Nuwan Hugh Perera as Nicholas/Schoolmaster, Parisa Shahmir as Mrs Cratchit, Tanisha Spring as Belle, Kibong Tanji as Ghost of Christmas Present/Mrs Fezziwig, Annie Wensak as Ghost of Christmas Past and Connor Wood as Young Ebenezer.

Sharing the role of Tiny Tim are Olive Mac Mahon, Freddie Merritt, Hannah Slater and Vinnie Stone.

The creative team includes set and costume designer Rob Howell, composition and arrangements by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker, casting by David Grindrod, Ebenezer Scrooge and original casting by Jessica Ronane and movement by Lizzi Gee. Jamie Manton is the associate director.

This year also sees the continuation of IN CAMERA: PLAYBACK, with the 2020 version of the show set to be broadcast in care homes across the country for free.

It will be running to 10 January 2026.
