The show, which returns to the West End following an international tour, promises “music, laughter, songs, rhythms, rhymes and repetitions; with puppetry,
paints, water and mud, not to mention a bear.”
Sally Cookson‘s production, which features a score by Benji Bower, is adapted from Michael Rosen and illustrator Helen Oxenbury’s popular picture book.
Rosen, a former Children’s Laureate, said: “This production of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt takes everyone on the journey – not under, not over, oh no –
through it! – in a funny, exuberant and loving way. It’s a show full of
laughter, music, silliness and thrills that I promise you will excite
and delight all young children.”
The cast are: Dad – Duncan Foster (who created the character and
has been playing it since the show began); Daughter – Rowena Lennon (The Railway Children); Son – Gareth Warren (Birmingham Stage Company’s Danny the Champion of the World);
Dog/Musician – Ben Harrison (Illyria Theatre Company’s The
Mowgli Stories) and newcomer Gavin Swift.
