Coronation Street star Wendi Peters is to feature in the cast of Call Me Vicky at the Pleasance Theatre this February.

The show is the debut play from sisters Nicola and Stacey Bland and is set in 1980s London. It focuses on Vicky, who transitions from male to female at a time when doing so was very rare.

Stacey and Nicola Bland said: "In the 1980s it was almost unheard of for someone to transition yet Vicky's story is still so relevant, and we feel it is important to see how her struggles paved the way for the 21st century Trans community."

Peters will play Sylvie in the story set in Elephant and Castle, with Matt Greenwood playing Vicky, Nicola Bland as Debbie, Stacey Victoria Bland as Gabby, Adam Young as Sid and Ben Welch as Fat Pearl.

The piece is part of the Pleasance Theatre's #YouWillKnowTheirNames season, showcasing original new voices. Victoria Gimby directs, with sound from Jac Cooper, lighting from Holly Ellis and set and costume from Martha Hegarty.
