The Notebook will be adapted into a musical by Ingrid Michaelson

The hit novel, which is also a film, is coming to Broadway

Songwriter and performer Ingrid Michaelson has revealed she is working on a Broadway musical version of Nicholas Sparks' novel The Notebook.

Talking on the Today Show yesterday, Michaelson revealed that the book is being penned by This is Us producer and writer Bekan Brunstetter. The 1996 novel, about a turbulent relationship between two lovers over the course of their lives, was turned into a hit 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

Michaelson has been working on the musical for a year and a half, and has previous performance credits including The Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway. Brunstetter

No casting, the rest of the creative team or venues have been revealed for the musical, though Michaelson did mention that Gosling and McAdams will not appear. Brunstetter's credits include The Cake, which is having its New York premiere later this year.
