The Inheritance at the Young Vic confirms West End transfer

Matthew Lopez's The Inheritance, which is about to complete its run at the Young Vic, will transfer into the West End later this year, it has been confirmed.

Directed by Stephen Daldry (The Crown), the two-part production (which plays in its entirety on one day or over consecutive evenings) will open at the Noël Coward Theatre on 21 September, running until 5 January 2019. Loosely transposing EM Forster's Howards End, the piece follows a group of young New Yorkers reflecting on the generations that came before them, particularly after the AIDs crisis.

The majority of the original Young Vic cast will transfer with the production, including Hugo Bolton, Robert Boulter, Andrew Burnap, Hubert Burton, John Benjamin Hickey, Paul Hilton, Samuel H Levine, Syrus Lowe, Michael Marcus, Vanessa Redgrave, Kyle Soller and Michael Walters. Luke Thallon has not been confirmed for the West End run.

In her review of the Young Vic world premiere, critic Holly Williams said: "The Inheritance sweeps you up completely. You root for these characters as individuals, but their stories interlock with each other – and with the past – to form something like an embrace. It feels all-enveloping and deeply generous."

The show has set and costumes by Bob Crowley, lighting by Jon Clark, sound by Paul Arditti and Chris Reid, music by Paul Englishby, casting by Julia Horan, Jordan Thaler and Heidi Griffiths. David Lan, who programmed the original production as artistic director of the Young Vic, joins as executive producer for the West End production.
