WhatsOnStage attended rehearsals to have a first listen to ENO's production of Porgy and Bess, which opens at the Coliseum and marks the first time the company has produced Gershwin's opera in its 80-year lifespan.

The piece, set in a close-knit South Carolina community in the 1920s, will be conducted by John Wilson with direction by James Robinson.

Eric Greene and Nicole Cabell take on the two titular roles of Porgy and Bess, with further cast including Nmon Ford and Nadine Benjamin, who performs the iconic number "Summertime".

Porgy and Bess has set design by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Donald Holder, video design by Luke Halls and choreography by Dianne McIntyre.
