Lee Evans is to come out of retirement to join the Pinter at the Pinter season, as further casting has been announced for the shows running in the West End this autumn.

Evans will appear in Monologue, about a lonely man addressing an absent friend, which will run from 25 October to 8 December on the same evening as Keith Allen, Tamsin Greig and the newly announced Meera Syal (who will appear in Landscape and A Kind of Alaska) for 23 performances only.

In addition, Evans and Syal will perform sketches from Pinter on the same evening.

Jonjo O'Neill will join Paapa Essiedu, Kate O'Flynn, Sir Antony Sher and Maggie Steed in the opening set of shows, One for the Road, The New World Order, Mountain Language and The Pres and an Officer.

Evans, who was in Pinter's The Dumb Waiter in 2007, said: "Working with Harold Pinter was one of the most incredibly exciting experiences of my life. Of course, I found Harold to be, along with his incredible wife Antonia, two of the most generous, kind and considerate people one could ever wish to meet; a couple so desperately keen to pass on anything they could to encourage and help young actors and directors, no matter who, what or where you might be from.

"It didn't matter to Harold - the most important thing to him was the work. Most of all, Harold loved it when his work allowed you, the performer, to shine. Thanks, Harold - my hero."
