A new immersive show based on the classic animation Disney's Fantasia will open at the Vaults in London in a year when Disney celebrates Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary.

Entitled Sounds and Sorcery and inspired by the 1940s movie, the show will see audiences walking around the various tunnels in the Vaults under Waterloo station while listening to an orchestra through headphones. At the same time, 3D projection, binaural sound, sets and lights will all create the world of the film.

The piece will be accompanied by a new recording of eight pieces from the film, presented by a 96-piece orchestra under the musical direction of Stephen Higgins.

The Vaults director Kieran Vanstone said: "‘When we first began exploring the world of Disney's Fantasia, we knew instinctively that this was the next epic scale immersive project for us. For some time we'd been exploring the use of headphones, and specifically binaural technology, as a technique for plunging our audiences deeper into the worlds we create. Fantasia is such an inspiring, iconic movie that truly features some of the most excellent music that has ever been scored."

The show opens on 4 July.
