Geoffrey Streatfeild cast in Cell Mates at Hampstead Theatre
Simon Gray’s comedy is revived for the first time since 1995
Full casting has been announced for the revival of Simon Gray's Cell Mates, which opens at Hampstead Theatre in December.
Set in Wormwood Scrubs Prison in 1961, Geoffrey Streatfeild will play George Blake, one of Britain's most notorious double agents, who is serving a 42-year sentence. Streatfeild returns to the theatre after starring in Michael Frayn's Wild Honey last year. His other credits include The Beaux Stratagem, Earthquakes in London and The History Boys – all at the National Theatre.
Emmet Byrne makes his London stage debut as Sean Bourke, an Irish petty criminal who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Blake.
The rest of the cast – directed by Hampstead Theatre's Edward Hall – will be Philip Bird, Cara Horgan and Danny Lee Wynter.
Cell Mates runs at Hampstead Theatre from 7 December to 20 January, with previews from 30 November.
