Caroline, Or Change to transfer to Hampstead Theatre with Sharon D Clarke

Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Caroline, or Change will transfer to the Hampstead Theatre in March next year, it has been announced.

Sharon D Clarke will make her debut at the theatre, reprising her role as Caroline Thibodeaux in Michael Longhurst's production.

Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori’s musical, about an African American maid in '60s Louisiana, will be the first musical at Hampstead Theatre since their smash hit Sunny Afternoon and sees Kushner return to the venue following last year's iHo.

In his review of the Chichester run, Matt Trueman said: "Longhurst and designer Fly Davis unleash its liveliness with a giddy staging that's kept grounded by Clarke and her deep, earthy voice."

Also announced today at the Hampstead is the UK premiere of Sarah Burgess’ Dry Powder. Directed by Anna Ledwich, the comedy is set in a private equity firm in New York and runs from 26 January to 3 March.

The cast for Luke Barnes' new show, No One Will Tell Me How To Start a Revolution, was also announced, with Charlotte Beaumont, Helen Monks and Sophie Melville starring as the three sisters fighting for acceptance.

Caroline, or Change runs at Hampstead Theatre from 19 March to 21 April, with previews from 12 March.
