Almeida to premiere Robert Icke version of Ibsen's The Wild Duck

A new version of Henrik Ibsen's The Wild Duck, created by Robert Icke, will premiere at the Almeida this October.

Ibsen's play, set in a family home riddled with secrets, will be adapted by Icke (who also directs), and marks the associate director's newest production at the venue since his version of Hamlet. Starring Andrew Scott, the production transferred into the West End and won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Play Revival earlier this year. Icke's previous shows at the Almeida include Mary Stuart, Oresteia, and Uncle Vanya.

Casting for the production, which will be Icke's first adaptation of Ibsen, is to be announced.

The Wild Duck will have design by Bunny Christie, lighting by Elliot Griggs, sound by Tom Gibbons and casting by Julia Horan. It runs from 15 October to 1 December, with tickets going on sale on 16 August for the general public.

Coinciding with the production will be a new "Almeida for Free" one-day festival on 27 October, which will feature a free matinee performance of The Wild Duck, a Q&A with Icke and workshops with theatre practitioners.
