Quick Questions with Michael Glenn Murphy on….The Walworth Farce
Druid Theatre Company have a great reputation following their success with their productions of The Cripple Of Inishmaan and Playboy Of The Western World, among others. Formed in Galway in 1975, the company have toured the world and recently took Inishmaan to New York, garnering rave reviews. They return to the Lowry later this month with the classic, The Walworth Farce. We caught up with actor Michael Glenn Murphy for a quick natter about the play.
What attracted you to the The Walworth Farce?
It’s a fantastic play and a great part. It’s a great challenge. It’s also a chance to travel the world with it. It’s great to work in other cultures as opposed to just holidaying…
What’s your favourite line?
When my character says: “Can’t imagine John Boy or Jim Bob raising a nasty hand to daddy Walton can ya? Despite all those wood carving tools hanging about their house.”
What’s it like working for a company as well respected as Druid?
Fantastic! The acting equivalent of playing for Manchester United! It’s that good.
What are your plans after the tour?
Therapy and sleep! And of course painting and decorating, not to mention the household chores…Oh and possibly a holiday in the wilds of Mayo!
