EXCLUSIVE: Eileen Atkins and cast of RSC's The Witch of Edmonton in rehearsals

The production opens at the Swan Theatre on Wednesday 29 October

Images have been released exclusively to WhatsOnStage showing Eileen Atkins and cast in rehearsals for Gregory Doran's upcoming RSC production of Dekker, Ford and Rowley's rarely-performed Jacobean tragedy The Witch of Edmonton.

Atkins returns to the RSC in the title role of Elizabeth Sawyer having last performed with the RSC in 1997 in Yasmina Reza's The Unexpected Man with Michael Gambon.

She is joined in the cast by Oliver Dench, Judi Dench’s great nephew and Jeffrey Dench’s grandson, who is following in the family footsteps and making his RSC debut.

The cast also includes: Joseph Arkley (Warbeck); Joe Bannister (Somerton); Ian Bonar (Frank Thorney); Elspeth Brodie (Katherine); Faye Castelow (Susan); Liz Crowther (Anne Ratcliffe); Geoffrey Freshwater (Old Thorney); Shvorne Marks (Winnifride); Christopher Middleton (Old Banks); Michael Moreland (Old Ratcliffe); Ian Redford (Old Carter); David Rintoul (Sir Arthur Clarington); Jay Simpson (Dog); Timothy Speyer (Justice) and Dafydd Llyr Thomas (Cuddy Banks).

The Witch of Edmonton opens on 29 October 2014 and will play in rep in the Swan Theatre with The White Devil until 29 November 2014.
