Full casting has been announced for Tristan Bernays' new play, Boudica which opens at Shakespeare's Globe in September.

Gina McKee will play the title role in the final production of Emma Rice’s Summer of Love season. McKee's previous theatre credits include The Mother (Tricycle Theatre), Richard III (Trafalgar Studios), King Lear and Faith Healer (Donmar). Her screen credits include Notting Hill, Atonement and Line of Duty.

Directed by Eleanor Rhode, the cast will also feature Joan Iyiola (They Drink It in the Congo, Almeida) as Boudica's daughter, Alonna. Forbes Masson (Travesties, Menier and West End) will play Cunobeline. Samuel Collings (The Inn at Lydda, Globe) will play Catus Deciamus.

The cast also includes Bethan Clark, Owen Findlay, Jenny Fitzpatrick, Kate Handford, Brian Martin, Anna-Maria Nabirye, Abraham Popoola, Clifford Samuel, Natalie Simpson and Tok Stephen.

Bernays' new play charts the story of one of Britain’s most famous warrior queens.

Boudica runs at Shakespeare's Globe from 13 September to 1 October, with previews from 8 September.
