Casting announced for National Theatre's Barber Shop Chronicles

Inua Ellams’ third play at the National will also run at West Yorkshire Playhouse

The cast for the National Theatre's production of Barber Shop Chronicles has been announced.

Inua Ellams' new play is about the stories told when groups of African men gather in barber shops to discuss the world. Ellams' two previous plays at the theatre were The 14th Tale and Black T-shirt Collection.

The cast includes Fisayo Akinade (Saint Joan), Hammed Animashaun (Amadeus), Peter Bankole (Volpone), Maynard Eziashi, Simon Manyonda, Patrice Naiambana, Cyril Nri (The Observer), Kwami Odoom (DNA), Sule Rimi (Mary Stuart), Abdul Salis (Love Actually), David Webber and Anthony Welsh.

Barber Shop Chronicles is co-produced by Fuel, and the West Yorkshire Playhouse, where the play will run in July. It will be directed by Bijan Sheibani , and runs in the Dorfman from 30 May.

Barber Shop Chronicles runs at the National Theatre from 7 June to 8 July, with previews from 30 May, and West Yorkshire Playhouse from 12 to 29 July.
