Shakespeare's Rose Theatre summer pop up creative teams announced

The shows will run in York and Blenheim Palace over the summer

The directors and designers of the upcoming shows at the Shakespeare's Rose Theatre pop ups have been announced.

Damian Cruden returns to York to direct Hamlet, while also serving as overall artistic director for both companies. Joyce Branagh is to direct Twelfth Night, with Phillip Franks directing The Tempest and Gemma Fairlie directing Henry V.

The overall season designer will be Sara Perks as well as set and costume designer for Hamlet and costume designer for Twelfth Night. Adrian Linford is to be set and costume designer for The Tempest and costume designer for Henry V. Max Dorey is to be scenic designer for Twelfth Night and Henry V.

Last year's productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth will be revived at Blenheim Palace and there will be new productions of Romeo and Juliet and Richard III too. Juliet Forster is to direct Romeo and Juliet and Lucy Pitman-Wallace directing Richard III. Amy Yardley will be associate scenic designer for Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream and scenic designer for Romeo and Juliet. Sarah Mercade will be associate costume designer for Macbeth A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet. Richard III will have scenic and costume design by Adam Nee.

Both theatres at Blenheim Palace and in York will be running a total of eight Shakespeare plays. The venues are located within an Elizabethan-style village which includes wagon performances and entertainment, oak-framed pub, an Elizabethan garden and a village pond.
