Michael Grandage’s farewell season as artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse commences this week (9 August, previews from 4 August 2011) with Eugene O’Neill’s 1921 Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play Anna Christie revived starring Ruth Wilson in the title role alongside Jude Law.

The play, which is directed by Rob Ashford, sees former prostitute Anna, who was exiled from her home as a child, reunited with the father who sent her away 15 years earlier and set sail in search of a new beginning.

Ruth Wilson won an Olivier and was nominated for a Whatsonstage.com Award for the Donmar’s 2009 revival of A Streetcar Named Desire. She was nominated again in last year’s Whatsonstage.com Awards for her Almeida performance in Through a Glass Darkly.

Jude Law, who plays Anna’s lover Mat Burke, won the Whatsonstage.com Award for his appearance in Grandage’s Donmar West End production of Hamlet, which transferred to Broadway after its sell-out season at Wyndham’s Theatre. Anna Christie marks Law’s first stage appearance since.

The cast for Anna Christie also includes Jenny Galloway and David Hayman, alongside Paul Brightwell, Robert Lonsdale, Henry Pettigrew, Michael Walters and Matt Wilman. The production is designed by Paul Wills, with music and sound by Adam Cork. It continues until 8 October 2011.
