David Suchet Takes Another Long Journey to West End
The new production is due to run from 2 April to 18 August 2012 at Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, the same address where the Arthur Miller play, in which Suchet co-starred with fellow Whatsonstage.com Award winner Zoe Wanamaker, was a sell-out hit last summer.
O'Neill's 1941 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama tells the story of the Tyrones, a family on the edge, with a druggie mother, penny-pinching father and alcoholic son. Long Day’s Journey into Night is considered one of America s greatest plays and in the National Theatre’s survey of the 100 most significant plays of the 20th century, it was voted into fifth place.
The last major West End production, in 2000, also ran on Shaftesbury Avenue, at the Lyric Theatre, with Jessica Lange as mother Mary Tyrone and Charles Dance as father James, the part Suchet will play. No further casting has yet been announced for the new production, which will be directed by Anthony Page.
