York Theatre Royal

York Theatre Royal is one of the oldest continuously operating theatres in the English-speaking world, with origins on its current site dating back to 1744. Constructed over the remains of the 12th-century St Leonard’s Hospital, the Grade II* listed building visually traces its long history, incorporating medieval stonework, a 19th-century Victorian Gothic facade, and a 1960s modernist poured-concrete foyer.
