The Tricycle Theatre is extending its run of The Epic Adventure of Nhamo The Manyika Warrior and His Sexy Wife Chipo until 24 August.

Presented by British-African theatre company Tiata Fahodzi, the show turns African storytelling and theatrical decorum on their heads as a desperate narrator has just 24 hours to create the ultimate African fable. However, the superstar cast is missing a hero. Suddenly, a dashing goatherd appears on the horizon… Nhamo. Is he The One?

Tiata Fahodzi – Theatre of the Emancipated – was founded in 1997 and creates work that reflect the cultural experiences of British Africans.

New artistic director Lucian Msamati (an actor himself, having appeared in the BBC’s The Number One Ladies’ Detective Agency and The Comedy of Errors at the National with Lenny Henry) directs the debut play by Denton Chikura (who recently appeared in the Tricycle Theatre’s production of The Arabian Nights – see our review here).

The cast comprises Tanya Fear (Kick-Ass 2) as Chipo, Don Gilet (EastEnders, Babyfather) as Narrator, Nyasha Hatendi (Cheek by Jowl‘s Tis Pity She’s a Whore) as Commander Specimen and Ery Nzaramba (The Bacchae, Blood Wedding, Northampton) as Nhamo.

The production is designed by Ben Stones with lighting by Paul Keogan. The Composer and Sound Designer is Helen Skiera and Assistant Director is Anthony Ekundayo Lennon.
