We think we've heard this somewhere before… Tim Minchin and Matthew Warchus are developing a musical version of the 1993 film Groundhog Day, according to the Daily Mail.

The pair, who worked together on hit show Matilda the Musical, are working with the film's screenwriter Danny Rubin on the production and the team aims to hold a workshop in Spring 2014.

Minchin revealed back in July that he was reuniting with Warchus on an "arty but much-loved early '90s film", with some of our forum users then speculating that their choice was Groundhog Day.

Warchus told Baz Bamigboye in the Mail that the musical "has to be something in its own right, not just a carbon copy", and is unsure whether the show will open on this side of the pond. He said: "I’ll decide where it should go — London or New York — once I see what kind of show it is. We won’t know until we run it through at a workshop".

The 1993 film starred Bill Murray as a jaded weatherman, who is forced to re-live the same day again and again until he re-examines his life and priorities. It was directed by Harold Ramis.
