Tony Award winner Michael Grandage will direct the world premiere of The Line of Beauty.

Alan Hollinghurst’s Booker Prize-winning novel has been adapted by Olivier Award nominee Jack Holden for the stage.

The news was revealed as part of the Almeida’s massive new season, which you can read more about here.

A portrait of Thatcher’s Britain “at its most decadent and divisive,” the piece follows Nick Guest, who moves into the grand Notting Hill home of his university friend Toby and becomes familiar with the varied characters in his life, becoming “swept up in a world of money, power and privilege.”

Joining Grandage on the creative team are set and costume designer Christopher Oram, lighting designer Howard Hudson, sound designer and composer Adam Cork, movement and intimacy director Ben Wright, and casting director Sophie Holland. It is supported by the Charlotte Aitken Trust.

The Line of Beauty will run at the Almeida from 21 October to 29 November 2025, with a press night set for 29 October.

Casting is to be revealed.
