Ian Rickson directs the revival of Edward Albee’s black comedy at the Theatre Royal Haymarket
The Hollow Crown star Sophie Okonedo will join previously announced Damian Lewis in Edward Albee's black comedy, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?
Directed by Ian Rickson (Mojo, Jerusalem), Albee's play about a father who falls in love with a goat runs at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for 12 weeks from 5 April 2017, with previews from 24 March.
Okonedo is best known for her work on screen including her Academy Award-nominated performance in Hotel Rwanda. Her most recent theatre credit was in Ivo van Hove's Broadway production of The Crucible alongside Ben Whishaw and Saoirse Ronan. She was last on the London stage in Jeremy Herrin‘s Haunted Child at the Royal Court in 2011.
The Goat won the Tony Award for Best New Play when it premiered on Broadway in 2002, starring Bill Pullman. Best known for plays including Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?, which will also be revived next year starring Imelda Staunton, Albee passed away last month at the age of 88.
The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 5 April 2017, with previews from 24 March 2017.
