Photos have been released offering a first look at Joe Hill-Gibbins' new production of Shakespeare's historical play The Tragedy of King Richard the Second.

Starring award-winning actor Simon Russell Beale (The Lehman Trilogy) as the titular monarch who is usurped and cast off the throne, the piece opens at the Almeida Theatre next month.

Joining Russell Beale will be Leo Bill (The Glass Menagerie), Martins Imhangbe (Absolute Hell), Natalie Klamar (Cleansed), John Mackay (Machinal), Joseph Mydell (Richard III), Saskia Reeves (King Lear) and Robin Weaver (The Country Wife).

The piece will have design by Ultz, lighting by James Farncombe, sound by Peter Rice, dramaturgy by Jeff James, casting by Ginny Schiller and resident direction by Lucy Wray.

The Tragedy of King Richard the Second runs from 10 December to 2 February.
