He's best known for his theatre directing work, with recent credits including Killer Joe, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui and The Dazzle, so you probably wouldn't expect to find Simon Evans clutching a pack of cards in a room at the Edinburgh Festival, but that's exactly what he'll be doing this August.

For not only is Evans a dab hand at directing, he's a mighty magician too – winning Close-Up Magician of the Year not once, but twice.

This year, along with performer David Aula, he's taking two shows to the Fringe – The Vanishing Man (Pleasance Courtyard, 2:10pm) and The Extinction Event (Pleasance Courtyard, 3.40pm).

Below he explains what the shows are about and offers a glimpse at what to expect.
