Opera North is the latest company to use blogging as a means of engaging with audiences in the run up to performances. They are focusing their attentions this autumn on their production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, which opens on 11th September.

Over a period of eight weeks the blogs will cover the entire production process, from first rehearsal and first costume fitting to technical and the first night. They are calling the series From first rehearsal to first night.

The blog will be written by different members of the cast and production team in order to capture every aspect of the process and will change on a weekly basis. The first blog is planned for late July and will run every week until 11 September.

Opera North, based in Leeds, is the north of England’s leading opera company, touring regularly to major venues such as The Lowry, Salford, The Sage, Gateshead, Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and Theatre Royal, Newcastle. They are also to be seen in London once a year, where they appear at Sadler’s Wells early in the New Year.

In addition to Così fan tutte, the company will be presenting Janacek’s Mr Broucek and Massenet’s Werther. You can follow progress on the blog at www.operanorth.co.uk
