Producers have confirmed that the hit Broadway musical will come to London next year
It looks like the West End transfer of Motown the Musical is edging closer, with a statement from producers yesterday confirming that it is headed for London "next year".
The show, which will close on Broadway in January 2015, going on hiatus for a year and a half, will use "production assets" from the New York production in the UK, says producer Kevin McCollum. The Broadway website states that it will cross the pond next autumn.
Which theatre Motown will make its home is still under wraps, but it was rumoured back in March that it would head to the Dominion Theatre.
Other theatres that have been previously touted include the Adelphi and the Shaftesbury, although both have since been filled with potential long-runners Made in Dagenham and Memphis the Musical.
Motown the Musical is based on the true story of Motown founder Berry Gordy and his rise to fame as one of America's most influential music moguls.
Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright (Dreamgirls), the show follows Gordy through the 1960s as he launches the careers of music legends like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and the Supremes, and Smokey Robinson and The Miracles.
