Joe Penhall's new play Mood Music had its world premiere at the Old Vic last night, and guests celebrated the occasion at the central London venue.

Directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill, Enduring Love), Penhall's play follows a clash between a young musician Cat (played by Séana Kerslake) and an older producer Bernard (Ben Chaplin) who battle over rights to a song.

Helen McCrory, Adrian Lester, Stephen Mangan, Harriet Walter, Lesley Manville, Clive Rowe and Matt Lucas were all among those present on opening night, ahead of the venue's 200th birthday celebrations next weekend.

In her review, Daisy Bowie-Sell said Mood Music is "a study of manipulation and control and goes some way to shining a spotlight on how powerful men get their way."
