Jackie Wylie will take over as artistic director of the National Theatre of Scotland, it has been announced.

It was announced in in April 2016 that Laurie Sansom was to step down, Wylie will take over the organisation in spring 2017.

Sansom was in charge of the organisation from 2013 and before that Vicky Featherstone was the company's founding artistic director.

Wylie arrives at the NTS after running The Arches in Glasgow between 2008 and 2015, when the venue went into administration. She is co-director of Take Me Somewhere, a city-wide festival based at the Tram in Glasgow which has the intention of building on the legacy and international programming of The Arches.

Chair of the board of directors of NTS commented: "Jackie brings great energy and a passion for theatre-making that is far-reaching and collaborative and we look forward very much to Scotland’s national theatre entering its second decade with her at the helm."

Wylie said: "It’s an incredible privilege to be given the opportunity to lead the National Theatre of Scotland. Ten years ago it pioneered the ground-breaking model of a theatre without walls and since then it has combined world-class artistic distinction with a particular commitment to involving the entire population of Scotland.

"I look forward to continuing that spirit of innovation, building on the organisation’s many existing successes and relationships whilst also bringing in new voices, seeking out exciting collaborations at home as well as looking outwards, across the world."
