Hofesh Shechter brings Political Mother to Salford, 27 April

Later this month, Hofesh Shechter presents his critically acclaimed new work Political Mother at The Lowry for two performances.

The piece is Schechter’s first full evening creation for his internationally renowned company since the worldwide success of Uprising/In your rooms and depicts Shechter’s big-picture vision of oppression, survival, resistance and existence.  It’s a massive slab of heavy rock riffs, booming drums, fast-cut cinematic lighting and committed, inspired dancing. Images of mass hysteria and mindless obedience are interspersed with brief moments of tenderness and humanity.

Nominated for a South Bank Sky Arts award in 2011, Political Mother features live music, ensemble sequences, and cinematic editing. The piece is performed by 10 dancers and accompanied by Shechter’s cinematic score featuring a band of live drummers and electric guitarists. The show promises to draw audiences back to Shechter’s world whose astonishing unisons, percussive grooves and a raw and honest physicality mark him as one of the most exciting artists to emerge in recent years.

Since exploding onto the dance scene with Uprising/In your rooms Shechter and his young and talented dance company have established themselves as a leading force in the UK dance scene. Following a career as a dancer, Shechter moved to the UK in 2002 making his choreographic debut in 2004. A former Drummer in a rock band Shechter creates the musical scores for each of his dance creations and his atmospheric, groovy music alongside his company’s unique physicality has earned his work acclaim around the world.
