Shakespeare's Globe has announced that Charles Edwards will star in Simon Godwin's production of Richard II, which opens on 11 July 2015.

Edwards, recently seen opposite Angela Lansbury in Blithe Spirit, returns to the Globe after appearing as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing in 2011. His other credits include This House at the National and ITV's Downton Abbey.

Elsewhere, Jo Stone-Fewings will take the title role with Alex Waldmann playing The Bastard in James Dacre's revival of King John, a co-production with the Royal & Derngate, Northampton.

The cast also features Tanya Moodie (Constance), Barbara Marten (Eleanor of Aquitaine) and Joseph Marcell (Cardinal Pandulph), alongside Laurence Belcher, Simon Coates, Aruhan Galieva, Mark Meadows, Jo Stone-Fewings and Giles Terera.

The Globe also announced today that Johnny Flynn, who appeared in the venue's recent productions of Richard III and Twelfth Night, will be composing for period instruments for the first time in Blanche McIntyre's As You Like It, which opens on 15 May.
