Fun Home at the Young Vic cast to be led by Jenna Russell and Kaisa Hammarlund

The Tony Award-winning musical has found its Alison

The cast has been announced for the UK premiere of Fun Home, which opens at the Young Vic in June.

Directed by Sam Gold, the new production is the first time the five-time Tony Award-winning show, which has music by Jeanine Tesori, and book and lyrics from Lisa Kron, has been seen on UK shores. It is based on Alison Bechdel's 2006 graphic novel and follows the lead character Alison at three different stages of her life as she grows up in a turbulent household.

The cast will include Kaisa Hammarlund (Sweet Charity, Bakkhai) as Alison, Eleanor Kane (Threeway) as Medium Alison, Jenna Russell (Urinetown, Mr Burns) as Helen, Ashley Samuels (Motown, The Book of Mormon) as Roy, Mark and Jeremy, Cherrelle Skeete (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Jack and the Beanstalk) as Joan and Zubin Varla (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Measure for Measure) as Bruce, Alison’s father. Further casting for Small Alison, John and Christian has yet to be announced.

The piece will have choreography by Danny Mefford, set and costume design by David Zinn, light by Ben Stanton, sound by Kai Harada, music supervision by Chris Fenwick, music direction by Nigel Lilley and casting by Julia Horan.

Fun Home runs at the Young Vic from 27 June to 1 September with previews from 18 June.
