Fresh Meat stars take part in Old Vic's tenth 24 Hour Plays gala

The stars were out in force for the tenth anniversary of the Old Vic’s fundraising gala

The Old Vic's tenth anniversary 24 Hour Plays gala took place yesterday (24 November 2013), with celebrities including Zawe Ashton and Jack Whitehall (from Channel 4's Fresh Meat) taking part.

The annual fundraiser sees actors, writers and directors teaming up to create, rehearse and perform a short play in just a day.

Others taking part this year include Downton Abbey's Allen Leach, Miranda's Tom Ellis alongside Annabel Scholey, Catherine Tate, Clive Rowe, Cynthia Erivo, Lily Cole, Neil Stuke and Tina Hobley.

Comedian Rob Brydon returned to host proceedings and joshed with artistic Kevin Spacey at the '25th hour' aftershow party, which was held at the Rosewood hotel in Covent Garden.

Welcoming guests on stage, Spacey said: "Can you believe it’s been ten years? At this moment we have a fine cast waiting in great anticipation to throw up in the wings. Trust me. Anything can happen."

First to take the stage were Jack Whitehall, Nathan Stewart Jarret, Jeff Fahey and Tom Cullen with Why aren’t they laughing?' written by Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show'').

Next up, were Zawe Ashton, Tom Ellis, Allen Leech and Annabel Scholey in romantic comedy, So Much Once directed by Michael Buffong.

Taking the audience to the interval was The Womb featuring Tina Hobley and Lesley Sharp alongside Clive Rowe and Neil Stuke.

After the interval Catherine Tate led the cast in Matt Hartley’sThe Garden of Ms Harriet Figg, before Douglas Booth made his stage debut alongside Ronni Ancona, Amanda Donohoe and Harry Lloyd in Rosie, Adam, Kyle & Louis.

Intervention starring Lily Cole and Anthony Head closed the show, before the whole company took to the stage for the curtain call.

The evening raised £165,000 for The Old Vic Theatre Trust, with donations reportedly still coming in.
